This is a new post of how I feel about immigration at this point because I'm not entirely sure but I may have deleted a whole post (while only trying to delete a comment) so I will see if I can remember what I wrote:

At the point of this post I was in a transitional mode of thinking. I was still entirely against immigration but I was beginning to feel different about it. In this post I was giving stats to emphasize the harmfulness in the increase of immigration. Numbers changed drastically from 1820 when number of immigrants were at a low of 8,385 to in 2006 with the number rising to 1,226,264. This change would seem to correlate with the increase level of poverty and jobs around the nation. Statistics are often used to make situations seem worse than what they are or show the harshness of what they are describing. In looking at this website:
http://immigrationcounters.com/
How do u feel? Are these stats demeaning of the real-life situation or demonstrating exactly what's happening? Does this website make you change your views on how you feel about illegal immigration or help to emphasize your feelings towards the subject?
I would like to add some facts that I didn't previously know. In 2004 a million people immigrated legally into the US. There were specific reasons they were allowed to do this. A few would include:
  • employment preference such as certain skills they could provide
  • family preference
  • relationships with US natives
  • diversity
  • refugees.

I was the same way at first I thought that illegal immigrants being over here were a bad thing. I was like they aren’t working and they are not doing anything so why are they here. But when I went to the link and when I realized how many kids of illegal immigrants were in school...I thought well you know the kids need to learn. When I looked at how much money was wired back, I thought if they are helping out their family, maybe it’s not all that bad. If one looks at the big picture it is costly the U.S. $1,472,349,549 to punish the immigrants and the numbers keep going up. As a nation, we realize yes, there is a problem but maybe we shouldn’t be too quick to punish them, we should take the time and see how much good they are really doing, and how much harm and money we are costing ourselves.

It's hard for me to say how i feel about immigration because it's a very hard thing to be for or against. I believe that people have the right to come to this country if they are going to earn a honest living and abide by the laws that our socity and government has put into place. On the other hand, there are are countless immigrants that take advantage of those of us that are citizans and pay taxes. So its hard for me to take one side or the other at this point.

Wow.
Remember me? I'm the guy who blasted you on your first post regarding your concerns about illegal immigration. All of a sudden, I return to this site and I find that you have a new way of thinking when it comes to immigration. That's very awesome. I'd respect your opinion regardless if you changed your views or not, but the fact that you have a new mentality of immigration lets me know that you've done your research and dedicated a lot of time into pondering about the issues being raised about immigration.
I like the links that you give. They provide a good amount of stats. I pretty much have the same mentality about illegal immigration. We need immigrants for our economy and just as long as we control this immigration with moderation, I don't see a problem.

I am glad that my fellow commentors acknowlegde the change of heart for this topic. The immigrants do need to have a chance like the rest of us and this America is more of the place to do it in. We, as Americans, do need to try living in their shoes and learn the hardships that are driving them here. I'm in total agreement with commentor Russ King because he has the same values as I on this topic. People will always be opposed to the situation that we are in but if we keep a neutral or optimistic mindframe, we will be alright.

Technology truly has become one with our daily lives, and I think it is safe to say that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as memory gets cheaper, the possibility of downloading our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I daydream about every once in a while.
